At Rec Media, we’re passionate about grassroots sports. Sports runs in our DNA, not only as an advertising network specialized in recreational facilities, but as advocates for sport’s ability to positively impact Canadians.
In our recent blog post, entitled Sharing the Glory: Benefits of Team Sports for Children, we discussed the benefits of sport participation amongst children. Industry research has shown us that sport has the potential to instill long-lasting health benefits, develop valuable life skills that extend to adulthood, and build stronger communities, to name a few. We sincerely believe that one of the best things parents can do is introduce kids to the benefits of team sports.
We reach thousands of communities coast-to-coast, having placed campaigns in over 1,400 partner and associate facilities including hockey arenas, soccer fields, curling rinks and more. On a daily basis, we’re exposed to the first-hand benefits of grassroots sport, as a platform to inspire spectators, bring people together, engage consumers, and build stronger communities.
For our team here at Rec Media, some of our fondest memories and learnings came from participating in organized sport. Memories and skills that will last a lifetime and have helped us develop both professionally and personally.
However, we’re also noticing that it’s becoming more challenging for many families, especially those facing financial barriers, to afford the cost associated with organized sport. Unfortunately, too many children don’t have the opportunity to access the benefits of organized sport. In fact, 1 in 3 kids do not participate in organized sport and cost is the primary barrier. As innovators who practice in the field of sport, within a nation bound together by sport, this was a statistic we couldn’t neglect.
At Rec Media, we’re committed to reinvesting in Canadian communities, the same communities that have invested so much in us, in an effort to grow grassroots sport in Canada.
We’re proud to share that we’ve partnered with KidSport to help remove financial barriers that prevent kids from playing organized sport. KidSport is a national not-for-profit organization that provides grants for registration fees and equipment to kids aged 18 and under. Similar to Rec Media, KidSport is a national organization with strong ties at the community level, comprised of over 175+ community chapters across Canada. As leaders in the amateur sport community, we’re committed to aligning with KidSport to help ensure grassroots sport is more accessible for Canadian families.
